What Thanksgiving Means To Me

Apparently it means checking Amazon every hour and spending oodles of money.  Deals that I've seen that some of you might be interested in as well:

Bridesmaids on DVD for $5.99 (normally $29.98)
The Vampire Diaries S2 on DVD for $12.99 (normally $59.98) (I have been checking obsessively for the past week waiting for the price to drop for Black Friday)
Every season of Supernatural, including S6, for $12.99 (normally $59.98)

I bought Bridesmaids a few days ago, ordered TVD a few minutes ago (also ordered S7 of Boy Meets World for $8.99 yesterday, which is actually more of a present for my sister, who is obsessed with the show), and am considering purchasing S1, 4, 5, & 6 of SPN.  Remember that post where I said I was a compulsive DVD buyer?  I haven't even watched SPN in a month!  But the deals!  The DEALS!

The Internet has made Black Friday so much more accessible for introverts like me who don't want to leave the house.  I can be profligate anyway!  But no, I am not actually that much of a spendthrift.  I'm just spending birthday money before I get it.  I do plan to do some Christmas shopping tomorrow, though.

But visiting Amazon religiously is only a small part of what Thanksgiving means to me.  More importantly, it means I'm extra grateful to be with my family; for good food and a good home; for my relatives and friends; for all of you on LJ.  It means eating a mish-mash of normal Thanksgiving food (cornbread, mashed potatoes, beets) and ordinary food (like spaghetti) because we're vegetarian.  It means ordinarily we'd go see a movie as a family (probably the Muppets), but this year we might skip it because the Packers are playing and my brother and father are obsessed.  And of course, Thanksgiving means "Pangs" (and Chandler in a box).  :)

I hope all of my fellow "bloody colonials" have a happy and safe Thanksgiving, and I hope everyone else has an excellent November 24th!

I'm doing the exact same thing, except I shop around. At Target I got Parks and Recreation season 1 for 7.99 and season 2 for 12.99, and I got Modern Family season 1 for 8.99. Then at Amazon I got Parks and Recreation season 3 for 18.99 and X-men: First Class for 9.99. I'm going to Best Buy at midnight to try to get a camera I was just about to buy online but in the half hour it took to confirm the big purchase with my mom, they sold out online. So if I don't get the camera at Best Buy, I'm buying it on Amazon, and buying Inglourious Basterds for 9.99 and Super 8 special edition on blu-ray for 24.99. Since I'm going to Best Buy, I'm going to stop at Walmart and pick up The Vampire Diaries season 2 and Glee season 1 for 10 bucks each. The Glee is for the BFF, btw. Then there's the scarves at Gap and Loft I want. I'm spending way too much money!

This is all shopping for me, not any Christmas shopping. I soak up Black Friday deals like a sponge.

I'm glad I'm not the only one here who goes crazy over Black Friday! I felt kind of bad for spending so much money on DVDs and fun stuff for myself (I was reading a truly horrifying article in the newspaper today about military families that can't afford Thanksgiving dinners and have to wait in food lines on a regular basis; hence the guilt for buying DVDs).

Ooh, that is seriously cheap for Parks and Rec and Modern Family. Amazon had both of those for $12.99 or thereabouts, and I was tempted to buy them, but I'm still not attached to either show, and P&R, at least, is on Netflix streaming. I tried to get stuff at Target yesterday, too, but when I went at 8 PM, they'd already emptied all the DVD specials bins (my mom had been there only a few hours before when they were still half-full). Glee is selling for $10 on Amazon, too. I was shocked; it's one of those *facepalm* moments when I think about how my mom spent $50 on it last year. Amazon has BtVS for cheap, too, and I'm so tempted to buy another S4 and S7 because one of my discs in each doesn't play, and I have to remind myself that they're on Netflix and it would be a waste of money. Hee, this is fun trading Black Friday steals.

Good luck getting your camera, and be safe in all the crowds! Happy shopping! :)
