Thank you very much! I'm so glad this seems true to canon. They have so many unexpectedly nice moments together even before the soul (playing pool in "Triangle," Xander helping him with the lighter in "Spiral") that I find the "pure enemies" interpretation completely two-dimensional. I can sort of understand how others slash them, but I personally can't see it.
