I believe I've heard that if you buy comics online you can look through them panel by panel instead of page by page, which not only makes them seem longer but also solves that problem of seeing ahead. Of course, that doesn't make much of a difference for someone who doesn't care for the medium to begin with, but it is an interesting example of how technology is changing the way we consume fiction. I hadn't thought before about how the e-reader revolution, etc. would affect comics.
