I read Season 8 all at once after it was released and one of the things I hated about it (other than the ridiculous plot) was that the emotional history between the characters (specifically Spike and Buffy) was absent most of the time. I'm confident that they'll do better this season, but reading fic like this makes it okay anyways.
I love how you turned something that was meant to be a joke at the fans into a rich conversation and great springboard for Spike and Buffy's new relationship. :)
Also, the "The Becoming Pt 2" band reference was awesome!
Oh yeah, in my opinion it definitely wasn't Spike, Riley, or Xander. I think Joss just threw that in because of the shippers. If she did sleep with someone (which I'm hoping she didn't), I would probably accuse either her boss, Heinrich, or some person we don't know yet. I doubt he'd throw consent issues on one of the established characters, who already have established moral codes when it comes to sex.
