It's been a week now since the finale aired, and I've gone from finding it more-or-less acceptable to more-or-less loathing it. Dean dying so suddenly (and in such an ignominious way to boot) and leaving Sam spits in the face not only of the S15 arc of escaping Chuck's hamster wheel but also, I think, of the last few seasons to boot. If this finale had aired after S10, coming off the MoC storyline and the Gadreel bullshit, I think I would have found Dean's easy acceptance of death and Sam's easy acceptance of a "normal" life much easier to swallow. But in the last few seasons, Dean hasn't had a death wish, and instead of yearning for a normal life a la "After School Special," Sam has been the one stressing the importance of them being together and dying together. He definitely doesn't yearn for any type of normal that doesn't also include Dean. As someone who faithfully watched every ep of S12-S15, the finale feels like a slap in the face.

I was so devastated by the SPN finale that I wrote and posted fic last Saturday for the first time in over four years. It's 2,500 words of me working out my SAM-WINCHESTER-FUCKING-DESERVED-BETTER feelings. I cried multiple times while writing it.

For context, S15 established early on that characters who have been to Hell, such as both Sam and Dean, are not allowed into Heaven. I therefore have MANY NOT-NICE FEELINGS toward the writers about the fact that Dean was so at peace with dying and Sam was able to let him go. I also have many feeilngs about the fact that Sam was left ALONE after losing his mom, Cas, Jack, AND Dean...

Title: Carry On: Coda
Summary: Sam prays for answers, because Heaven can’t take souls that have been to Hell.

To Jack, first, as he carries Dean’s body out of the barn.

To Amara, as he parks the Impala in the bunker’s garage and trembles in the driver’s seat, wondering if he has the strength to carry Dean’s body inside again (he’d do it in a heartbeat if it meant history would repeat itself; if Dean woke up with black eyes and Sam had to chase him down and cure him again that would be fine, it would be fine).

Amara, please, bring him back. I’m sorry we lied to you. I’m sorry we tried to kill you. I know we don’t deserve it, but please, please, please bring him back.

To Chuck even, in drunk desperation, and then hates himself a little afterward.

Chuck, if you have any powers left, please, please bring him back. We’ll be your favorites again, we’ll do anything you want, we’ll fight whatever apocalypse you throw at us, I promise.

But no one answers. Dean’s body stays cold and dead, and Sam can’t bring himself to carry him inside after all. The bunker already doesn’t feel like home anymore, but Sam can’t taint it any further. He won’t smooth out Dean’s rumpled bedsheets and blanket to lay a corpse on it. He leaves Dean in the car, with Baby, and the next day, he finds a crossroads.

This fic takes place in my Bela/Dean + Sam/Gen AU but is the first chronologically. I already said this on my flaily I-finished-my-draft post a few months ago, but this story has been in my head for literally YEARS, so it was such an amazing feeling to finally actually write it down. *happy sigh*

This is a tiny 1,200 ficlet- tbh more like a vignette or a timestamp than an actual ficlet with a narrative of its own- that I wrote during NaNo this year. I can't post the WIP snippets I really want to because in theory they're part of my RPBB (which I doubt I'll actually complete in time, also tbh), but this is an id-dy, entirely self-indulgent Sam + Bela scene in my Bela/Dean post-series AU (that I've posted several fics from). It takes place anywhere between 6 months to a year after Bela and Dean officially start dating.

A NSFW headcanon meme is going around Tumblr, and it instantly made me think of Bela and Dean, and since I definitely have opinions, I figured why the hell not do it. It was a very fun break from noveling.

I'm technically working on original fic these days, but I felt like doing this meme anyway ~~because I'm in a good mood~~ because (a) otherwise these tidbits might never see the light of day, (b) I would still love to eventually finish them, and (c) calling them WIP instead of abandoned probably improves their prospects. The problem is that with the exception of the first, all of these would be well over 10K if I actually wrote them, so I have a hard time justifying the time it would take away from original fic. /O\ Hopefully if I checked this post a year from now I'd have made progress on at least one of them, though...

And just, wow. I understand not tagging character hate, and I even understand tagging "anti-characters" if it's a major part of a post, but tagging "anti" in regards to a solitary reference to abusive behavior that is canonical? Just, wow.

All I can say is, I just reblogged some really excellent meta on "Bad Boys" about how the bruises on Dean's arms were probably made by John, and I tagged it "John Winchester" because it's fucking meta, and meta = / = hate, and if you think I'm going to go out of my way to protect the poor woobie feelings of apologists who identify as "pro john" (as this person's blog says), you are sadly mistaken.

/End rant, which I did here because I'm not going to respond to this person, 30% because I believe in taking the high ground and 70% because I am actually too appalled to even begin to know how to respond.

Sam sees said twin, assumes she’s Ruby, tries to kill her, gets knifed for the trouble, and then falls for her, because he’s a little messed up like that, poor boy. This snapshot takes places in the same Bela/Dean post-canon AU as “Morning Routine” and “Man of Steel” (but it’s not necessary to read those first) and was inspired by this post from Tumblr:

Over two months ago, I fell in love with a potential a/b/o verse, and I started scribbling down sentences whenever I could (literally, I was writing in a notebook at red lights during my commute). It was only ever supposed to be a lark, a short, “Things I Am Not Actually Writing” post. It turned into 5,500 words. It is still something that I Am Not Actually Writing, although I do hope to dabble in the verse again at some point. Maybe even try my hand at a/b/o sex. *wibbles* But for the moment it’s good to finally be done with it because that leaves me with just two short fics to write on my plate (and one thing that’s just for fun), and then I’ll possibly be done with fandom for a while. Not because I want to be done with fandom, but I have to focus on studying. Seems like the time for it, too, since it’s hard to feel creatively inspired when canon is prohibitively depressing.

So here’s the A/B/O Thing I’m Not Actually Writing, starring Gen and other familiar faces. No spoilers past "Jus in Bello." :D

When the other woman burst into the bathroom and Gen smelled alpha, she smiled, because unlike popular rag-mags, Gen did not believe that every other alfemale was out to steal her (hypothetical) omega, and in fact, she was pretty sure that ladies who were considered freaks of nature in large swathes of the country should look out for each other.

There are still occasional blips, though, like the boys deciding to batten down the hatches on little Mary Winchester’s half-birthday. Fortunately, while Sam and Dean wallow in their paranoia that history’s going to repeat itself, Ruby and Bela have each other, not to mention lots of wine.

A/N: This fic takes place in an AU in which Dean became pregnant with Bela’s baby in S3. They traded the Colt for an extension on Dean’s contract so that he could live until the baby was born in August; he was rescued by the angels at the end of October, so the S4 arc timeline is pushed back by a month. “Silent Night” is a companion piece to “Waiting Game,” which takes place while Dean and Bela are still in Hell and Mary is in Sam and Ruby’s care; however, it’s not necessary to read “Waiting Game” first.
