That was so beautiful - and let me first say that I really think/hope you should continue this, perhaps after the next comics??
I didn't bother reading S-8, although I knew from the kerfuffles what was happening (and blech, glad I didn't), but have bought the first two comics of S-9 (b'cuz Spike is in them).
You really captured Spike's emotions and inner turmoil, and it was so believable to see him reacting to Buffy in all the complexities that said emotions run. And as far as the comics go - as I understand them - Buffy's as well.
In my little corner of the verse, I see Buffy as having matured after the S-7 so that her emotions wouldn't be so stilted. Then again, even in television canon, Spike doesn't contact her, so what's a girl to think. Then again, I sort of pick 'n choose my parts of canon that fit into what I feel is obviously where the characters were heading, etc. lol
Having said that, fanfic is all about making the characters we love do what seems right or makes sense to us - keep the parts that we love, explain away what we don't. Some writers just end before or after the last of S-7, and some go on using the comics as a spring board.
In any case, I'm really glad that I've got new stories to read - and that fanfic writers are enjoying adding to the latest verse , and even more so that your story is so lovely.
