Matt probably looked for men to serve as role models and might have learned from someone like Mr. Gilbert Yeah I was thinking something sort of like this but couldn't quite figure out how to articulate it. It would definitely fit, especially since Matt spent a lot of time with Elena growing up, but there's no real indication that Vicki was there as well.
