I will never, ever, ever forgive the writers/audience/fans for embracing Cas in S4 after hating and getting rid of all the female characters for years.
Legit, tbh. Although, they could still have kept all those women alive/around and kept Destiel as the main romance, but wanting SPN to battle its misogyny AND homophobia was probably too much to ask.

This. With the usual caveat that I haven't actually watched a full episode of S15, it makes sense to me for Dean to be silently stunned at the love confession in the American version. I do read Dean as a repressed bisexual, but the show didn't have the guts to put that story onscreen.
That being said, interestingly the Spanish/Mexican version IS canon as well, no matter how it happened it was still approved and aired onscreen, and I don't hold with the racist/xenophobic argument that because it's not English it's not canon. So now we have supposedly opposing presentations of Dean in this scene. But maybe the two versions aren't that much in opposition - the whole scene is actually pretty ambiguous (to the extent that straights are still interpreting Castiel's "I love you" as familial...), so if American Dean had said "me too" I think that would have been ambiguous too and then there would be neverending debate about WHAT IT ALL MEANT (think of Spuffy and "I love you/no you don't but thanks for saying it").
As for how the Spanish version became what it was - it's actually not much of a conspiracy theory that there was a lot of meddling with the scene. Jensen himself said a lot of it was cut out, so although "me too" wasn't scripted the scene was DEFINITELY edited down to make Dean look less queer. Like, the wildest version of the conspiracy theorising is that there is secret Destiel footage out there (which is partially true) and everyone is lying about it; the mildest version is that the writers were thinking of bisexual Dean but didn't have the balls to put it on paper/film it. This Tumblr adrenaline culture is distracting from the real issue, which is that ALL explanations of what happened to Destiel have the root cause of homophobia, and it is morally right for the queer fandom to be giving the CW hell for it.
As you already know, your version of the finale - motion APPROVED.
I really hope Jensen's "jokes" comes true and that they do do a revival in 5 years.
