This was a really nice piece of work, tugs at the heart - Xander finally accepting Spike as one of the Scoobs. (I'm not into the slash thing either but a really like the idea of a hard won friendship between these two)
As those above, I also figured it out with this line.
("He remembers laughing when he first found out; feels ashamed now that he was so flippant, for more reasons than one")
I had to stop and think about it for a bit to figure it out, luckily I just rewatched "Crush" last night so that helped. :)
