1x11: Bloodlines
-Damon saving Elena and being so obviously concerned about her is sexier and more romantic to me than almost any Elena/Stefan scene so far.
-OMG, more voiceovers?? Alaric, too??
-Holy shit, it’s Zoe!! I had no idea she was on this show. Her excessive gushing about Damon, even if it is sardonic, is weird.
-Anna…I feel like I’ve read somewhere that she's a vampire. Don't know for sure, though.
-“Don’t pretend to care. I know you’re gloating inside.” Elena is such a bamf during that whole conversation. I would love to know what Damon’s thinking, because I bet he really does care.
-Bonnie found Katherine’s tooo-oomb…
-I like Bonnie’s grandmother.
-“You don’t like pickles, what's wrong with you?” Look at them just sitting normally and Elena complaining about Stefan and Damon teasing her and Elena not falling for his act! I SHIP THEM SO HARD. As lovers or BFFs or frenemies, I don’t care, as long as they’re ALWAYS TOGETHER.
-The conversation between Stefan and Sheila is pretty awesome.
-This is why I don’t want Damon to live happily ever after as he is: because Lexi’s boyfriend showed him mercy and then he turned right around and brutally killed Bree.
-“I saved your life.” “I know.” “And don’t you forget it!” ALKDFJALDKJFLAKDF
-Oh god, Stefan saved her life in that accident? Eurgh, I can’t decide if that’s cheesy/annoying or romantic.
-“I watched you, I learned everything I could about you.” CREEPY STALKER.
-“I have this need, well mostly all the time, to be right.” Lol, Anna, you are just like me. That could be disturbing if you do turn out to be an evil vampire.
-Oh my god he looked at her birth certificate and checked for records on her mother being pregnant? CAREFUL, STEFAN, YOU'RE GIVING EDWARD CULLEN A RUN FOR HIS MONEY.
-GodDAMN, that ending is hot with Alaric enraged and his hand shaking on the table.
Overall Thoughts:
Smashing episode, mostly (obviously) because it featured so much Damon/Elena. In case it wasn’t apparent above, I want them to be together ALWAYS because they are dynamite. That doesn’t mean I definitely want them to be together romantically or that I can’t ship Elena/Stefan, though, which I gather is how a lot of fans feel.
On the subject of Stelena, it amazes me, but I can still somehow find them appealing as a couple. The idea of Stefan stalking her for months while he investigated her past is insanely creepy, but his motivations mitigate the actual ick factor. It makes sense that he would need to turn over every stone after seeing “Katherine,” and I can easily imagine him falling for Elena over time as he learned about her, as opposed to immediately deciding he was going to love her. He’s not Angel creeping on a girl sucking a lollipop and deciding then and there that she’s the one for him. None of that excuses Stefan for not telling Elena the truth in the first place, but I don’t think his actual investigation in and of itself, given why he undertook it, is too, too terrible.
All that said, I really admired how Elena hung up on him and didn’t let him explain until she was ready to listen. Stefan’s pleas that he needed to be given the chance to explain really rubbed me the wrong way, mostly because it reminded me of Riley in “Into the Woods.” No, dude, you fucked up. That means it doesn’t matter what you need; you wait until she’s ready to hear your side. I’m glad Elena took the break she needed, and I’m even gladder she took it with Damon.
Speaking of Damon, FAIL. GO DIRECTLY TO JAIL; DO NOT PASS GO, DO NOT COLLECT $200. It’s very obnoxious of him that he didn’t show Bree the same mercy that Lexi’s boyfriend showed him. It fits with his character, so it doesn’t actually annoy me. I just feel the need to disapprove, the way I’m sure Elena would if she knew. I wonder if she would regret saving him if she knew what he did to Bree? It was quite nice when she pleaded for his life. Even though my gut says her burgeoning friendship (‘burgeoning’ is perhaps a bit of a strong word at this point- but I know that eventually it happens!) with Damon is odd and unrealistic (because, you know, he’s an unrepentant murderer), I can understand why she reacts the way she does. I don’t think I could watch an acquaintance, even a bad one, be murdered in front of me in cold blood and not try to stop it. Her defense of Damon makes her courage when she’s scared of him even more inspiring. I loved the exchange outside the car when she asked outright if he was going to hurt her and tried to get him to promise to not mind-control her. She’s extremely brave, and I love it.
Speaking of Damon and Elena, the scene where he saved her from the car was hot. The concern in his voice seemed completely genuine. The way he carried her- gah. Loved it.
I like the continuity with Lexi’s boyfriend and that someone was going to hold Damon accountable for his actions. I’m guessing that the reveal about Lexi’s boyfriend becoming a vampire is setting the stage for Elena wondering if Stefan will expect her to (or if she’ll eventually want to) someday become a vampire.
I feel bad for Jenna. It wasn’t her place to tell Elena the truth when her parents were alive, and how is she supposed to bring up such a subject so soon after their deaths?
It was cool to see Gina Torres. Bree lacked the same common sense that Zach did, though. Why tell Damon that you have vervain in your blood? That’s just telling him he needs to kill you a different way. It would actually be smarter to let Damon bite you, because then he’d be drugged and go unconscious so you could escape. We know from the scene with Caroline at the Founders Party that vervain-laced blood affects vampires very, very fast. Granted, you might lose enough blood beforehand that you pass out, too, but I think that’s still a better risk than advertising to Damon that he should just break your neck or rip out your heart rather than go for your neck.
This is my last episode for at least four days, unfortunately. I left my DVDs at school over Thanksgiving break, because I don’t watch a lot of TV at home and my hw situation is actually a little dire. I shall be pining, though. I spent a good part of my drive home today making up an incredibly short fanfic about what I think the Elena/Stefan/Damon dynamic could be like at the end of the series. It’s in script format, not prose. I don’t want to post anything until I’m done watching the series, though, because it may turn out that character growth in S2/S3 makes my idea laughable. In any case, I am fully in love with this show and wishing it were winter break so that I could marathon it. Given the melodrama and plot twists (which I adore, btw; I love that there’s so much plot and that all the characters have some and that it’s not all about Elena & Stefan’s relationship), this seems like a show that would be particularly fun to watch all at once. I do like savoring each episode, but since there's so much ongoing plot, I don’t think the risk of episodes running together during a marathon would hurt TVD the way it might other shows.

Date: 2011-11-23 05:40 am (UTC)Agreed! I really don't see them together romantically. But I love watching them play off each other. While Elena and Stefan don't really pop for me one way or the other, but I like them...fine as a pairing, I guess?
