Supernatural: Nightmare

-Nicely subtle freaked out look from Dean when Sam gets confirmation that the man from the nightmare exists.
-I’m glad Sam, at least, recognizes that pretending to be clergymen is a new low. Although it’s actually sort of ingenious. Wonder why they didn’t think of it earlier.
-What is this glowing green scanner?
-Ohhh he’s going to be decapitated. ☹
-I like that Dean is so stalwart about the visions for Sam’s sake.
-Didn’t expect the moral argument about killing human villains to come up again so soon.
-I’m glad the show didn’t take the low road and have Sam say he saw hate in his dad’s eyes.
-Now we have confirmation that Sam knew about the nursery.
Moments that made me giggle inside:
-“Our dark parts are pretty dark.” “You’re…dark.”
-The Vegas conversation
Moments that made me actually LOL:

Overall Thoughts:
Another really great episode- and I’m glad that this wasn’t a repeat of BtVS’s “Nightmares.” I’m starting to feel like a broken record saying ‘Tie’ for Favorite Boy, but both have really shone lately. Sam’s courage and faith in using words instead of violence are so endearing, even if it seems naïve sometimes. His nervousness about his abilities is realistic, and his speech about John at the end was incredibly touching. He’s so much more likable now that he’s lost that stick up his ass about John and is trying to see things from his brother and father’s POV. In that respect he’s a lot more mature than his brother, who does see things as very black and white (or John and not-John). That said, Dean is wonderful here as well; his concern for Sam is so obvious, and yet he’s hiding it and putting on the brave face for Sam. His speech at the end about Sam never going to the dark side because he has Dean made me flail as much as Sam’s speech about John.
I’m impressed that the writers brought up the issue of killing human villains again so soon. I still think both boys have valid points. I agree with Sam that they need to try talking before they resort to violence, but I think Dean absolutely should have brought a gun in case things went south and they had to defend themselves (even though the efficacy of a weapon against a telekinetic is somewhat limited). I liked the story’s resolution. It was kind of obvious that the easiest way to resolve things was to have the boy kill himself, but guessing the ending didn’t make it any less sad. The boy’s acting was quite good. I also just liked the plot in general- he was a three-dimensional villain whose motivation we could understand and whom we could sympathize with, even though he clearly needed to be stopped.
Yay, writers, for also advancing the arc. Normally I would be suspicious of Sam’s convenient abilities, but given the accolades I’ve heard about Kripke’s story planning, I trust that it will all make sense. So now I can think of two options for where this will go: the demon foresaw Sam and the boy’s powers and targeted them; the demon targeted them and imbued them with powers. I kind of hope it’s the second option, because I think that would be more interesting.

That said, Dean is wonderful here as well; his concern for Sam is so obvious, and yet he’s hiding it and putting on the brave face for Sam.
I KNOW. Here is this episode all about Sam, and still who I care most about is Dean. I believe I may be Dean-centric. *g*

And Sam would be sort of condescending about the whole thing, and talk about how it was kind of sad that all these women had nothing better to do than idolize him and Dean (but, you know, especially Dean). He might try to have an earnest talk with one or two, with hilarious results, before he gave up the whole thing and holed up in his motel room.

GIRL: No room. We're taking the car. [gets in and locks the door]
DEAN: That's my car! Hey!
GIRL: Don't worry. We'll bring it back in mostly perfect condition. [drives away with Sam]

Oh yes he would. And the car! And Dean standing there in parking lot in a useless rage. Yes.
And then Dean would call Bobby and see if there wasn't something demonic about this whole fangirl business after all. Bobby would be highly skeptical and wonder aloud how he ended up being long-distance referee to two such bone-headed idjits, and then he'd tell Dean to go find a real hunt or something and quit bothering him; Sam's an adult, after all, and he can take care of himself.
Cue more fuming from Dean while he keeps muttering under his breath, "They took my car."
I'm having way too much fun with this...
