30 Days of Disney: Day 5: Favorite Hero

Though Eugene (Flynn Rider) is a very close second, my favorite hero is Hercules. I fell in love with that movie from the first notes of “Go the Distance” (I remember watching the Oscars when I was seven years old and being so torn because it was competing against “My Heart Will Go On” for Best Song and I couldn’t decide which I wanted to win), and it is still easily in my top five favorite Disney animated films.
I think I initially loved Hercules for some of the same reasons I loved Belle, because I could relate to him. Like Belle, he feels like the odd one out growing up- and then he finds out he really is different and if he so chooses he can have adventures (emphasis on his choice; yes, he has a destiny, but it’s not forced on him). I’m sure the idea of being a demi-god appealed to me because I adored Greek mythology (and still do). I also love Herc because he’s adorably bashful when it comes to women, he sacrifices himself for Meg, and he’s handsome, clever, resourceful, resilient, strong, determined, and brave. I’d be his damsel-occasionally-in-distress any day.
